Regulations in the Department of Biochemistry

Regulations of the Biochemistry with elements of clinical biochemistry course

  1. The biochemistry course includes lectures, seminars and laboratory exercises.
  2. Attendance at lectures, seminars and laboratory exercises is obligatory. Any absence must be excused to the lecturer. Two unattended lessons can be compensated within one semester. If a student was absent at three or more lessons during the semester, no credits will be awarded for the given subject and the student will be excluded from the examination.
  3. The knowledge conveyed during the lectures is required for the seminars, colloquia, exercises and the examination.
  1. Biochemistry course schedule and announcements about the course will be available on the website e.biochem.sum.edu.pl. On the same website, after authentication, the results of colloquia and the final exam will be available.

Laboratories:

  1. Written knowledge tests are carried out regularly during the laboratory. To pass a test, a student has to obtain at least 65% of the total achievable points.
  2. To receive the credits for a semester, it is necessary to pass all tests during the laboratory.
  3. Retakes of the tests are held at the end of each semester. Students are entitled to credit tests three times per semester. Absence during the test is treated as a fail (0%).

 Seminars:

  1. Colloquia are held according to schedule. To pass colloquium, a student has to obtain at least 65% of the total achievable points. Students are entitled to credit tests three times per semester. The last attempt is a comprehensive test. Retake dates will be announced on the Department's website. Absence during the test is treated as a fail.
  2. To receive the credits for a semester, it is necessary to pass each colloquium.
  3. Using any electronic devices during colloquia and tests is forbidden.

The examination:

  1. To take the exam, it is necessary to pass the laboratories and seminars.
  2. The examination in biochemistry is a single-choice test. To pass the examination in biochemistry, the students have to achieve at least 65% of correct answers.
  3. The grade for the course is based on the points achieved during the final exam.

  Exemption:

  1. The exemption is possible for a student who passed Biochemistry at the same level in another Medical University. The student should provide a Course description and confirmation of credit and final grade.
  2. In each case, the decision is made by the Head of the Department upon acceptance by the Dean. An exemption may be dependent on the passing of additional examination covering Course description of Biochemistry with elements of clinical biochemistry in the School of Medicine in Katowice.
  3. The exempted student gets the grade from an additional examination or obtained from another Medical University.

 Consultations:

  1. Consultations for students are scheduled on working days, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., after an appointment is made by email with a Department employee. The inspection of written midterm papers is possible during consultations.
